New Year, New Class of Cadets

Do you know what's harder than wrangling an alligator?

Getting in to the Texas Game Warden Academy to learn how to do it right!

Just this week, 41 game warden cadets reported for duty at the Texas Game Warden Training Center in Hamilton County. They were selected from a pool of 949 applicants. And though it might seem like the hard part of becoming a game warden is just getting in, these cadets are in for months of grueling training, where they will learn about everything from the intricacies of the Texas Penal Code, to swift-water rescue, to how to properly wrangle a gator.

They are the best-trained corps of game wardens in the country, and we can be proud of the work they do to protect the lands, waters and people of Texas. We're wishing the 61st cadet class the very best of luck as they embark on their new careers. They will be joined by 11 park peace officer cadets, who will be trained alongside them.

TPWF members support the work of Texas Game Wardens and the Game Warden Training Center. You can, too, by becoming a member today.

Check out this video for a snapshot of what’s in store for the cadets in the next few months.

TPWF is proud to partner with Texans for State Parks to provide grants to the friends groups for state parks across the state. TPWF is matching the grant funds being provided by Texans for State Parks to fund small projects that have a big impact. TPWF has leveraged grants that have planted trees at Lost Maples State Natural Area (SNA), provided archery equipment for Colorado Bend State Park and provided start-up funds for five new friends groups to support their state parks. Heartfelt thanks to Texans for State Parks, who love our parks as much as we do!
