Grassland Gains for the Pecos Watershed
TPWF is honored to be the beneficiary of funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)* and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service** as part of The Pecos Watershed Conservation Initiative.
The program, which began in 2017, is dedicated to restoring and sustaining healthy rivers, streams and grasslands that provide important wildlife habitat in the Pecos River watershed of southeastern New Mexico and West Texas. Over the last nine years, NFWF funding has made it possible for TPWF to partner with TPWD, University Lands, and a number of private landowners to restore and expand grassland habitat in Northern Hudspeth County, one of the last strongholds for native grasslands in the Trans-Pecos region.

In the last year alone, our partners on the ground treated more than 22,700 acres, representing the largest single treatment in the nine-year history of the Trans-Pecos effort. To date, more than 80,000 acres have been restored, a momentous milestone and welcome boon to pronghorn populations and myriad grassland bird species that rely on the Pecos River and the surrounding native grassland habitat for sustenance and survival.

Turn the Tide for a Trash-Free Gulf this May
The Gulf Trust is back at it this May with its 2nd Annual Trash Free Gulf Initiative bringing together thousands of volunteers across Texas to protect our precious watersheds.
This year, the Gulf Trust has once again partnered with Presenting Sponsor H‑E‑B's Our Texas, Our Future, plus Supporting Sponsors Mender and Yogi Bins, conservation partners TPWF, Keep Texas Beautiful, and local organizations to carry out a statewide cleanup encompassing every major watershed and stretch of coastline.
Cleanups will take place throughout May, with volunteers cleaning up Texas’ watersheds and raising awareness for healthy streams, rivers, lakes, bays, and oceans. As part of this multi-year effort, cleanup partners will continue to collect data on the type and volume of trash collected to support solutions that address the root causes of excessive litter. In 2025, the Gulf Trust and partners recruited 2,100 volunteers across 45 cleanups to collect nearly 34,000 pounds of trash. In 2026, they aim to recruit 2,800 volunteers, conduct upwards of 60 cleanups, and collect 45,000 pounds of litter before it can reach the Gulf.
Volunteer registration is now open, so find a cleanup near you. We encourage all Texans to join us to help turn the tide on trash by keeping our waters clean.

The application window for the following scholarships is now open, and the deadline for submissions is Monday, June 8, 2026:
The Women in Conservation Science Scholarship: Advancing conservation by encouraging and supporting female undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies related to natural resource conservation. Thanks to the generosity of its benefactors, the Women in Conservation Science Scholarship will help ensure that women are on the forefront of fields dedicated to stewarding, conserving, and protecting the natural resources that Texans rely on and enjoy.
The Brady and W.K. Boyd Conservation Scholarship: Advancing conservation through education for graduating high school students and current college students. The fund was established to honor the memories of Brady M. Boyd (1991-2014) and Walter K. Boyd IV (1979-2017), two brothers who were avid hunters and anglers.
