Story #2: Give Back While Honoring a Special Mom!

Along a scenic stretch of the Leon River southwest of Waco lies Mother Neff State Park, one of Texas’ earliest state parks. Isabella Neff, mother of then-Texas Governor Pat Neff, donated the original six acres for the park in 1921. Always inspired by his mother, Governor Neff fought for and successfully established our state parks system just two years later in 1923.

And for the last 100 years, Texas State Parks have been places of awe and discovery. Millions of visitors take to our parks annually in search of adventure and relaxation. Whether it’s for the annual family reunion or just an impromptu picnic in nature, moms always seem to be behind some of our best park memories. Do you have a special mom who loves our parks as much as you love her?

Give back to the parks that have given us so much, and honor a mom who has given you so much!

TPWF is raising $2 million to fund much-needed projects at all state parks to help our parks thrive for the next 100 years. Donate in honor of a special mom for Mother’s Day, and we’ll provide you with a digital recognition card you can share with your favorite mom by e-mail or in person, no matter the distance. Take a look!

Mother's Day Tribute

Donate to Texas State Parks in honor of one of the world’s greatest natural resources—moms! All donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by our generous Centennial Champions, doubling the impact of your gift.

Go ahead - Make your favorite mom proud by honoring her today with a donation to our state parks, and then download the digital recognition card to share with mom!

Story #3: We Will Not Be Tamed: Jesse Griffiths

Texas chef Jesse Griffiths is passionate about cooking wild game and sourcing local ingredients for Dai Due, his nationally renowned restaurant in Austin. He is also an enthusiastic advocate for hunting

“With the rise of the local food movement, a lot of people have come to understand that hunting is another branch of food sourcing, which is exactly what it is,” said Jesse.

While Jesse’s hunting experiences began later in his life, he’s been fishing and camping since he was a child. His parents took him to Texas State Parks when he was a baby, and he grew up visiting parks across the state.

So, it is fitting that Jesse is commemorating the centennial anniversary of Texas State Parks as a We Will Not Be Tamed ambassador for Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation. We Will Not Be Tamed calls us to appreciate the wildness of Texas, the vastness of our Texas spirit, and why we should be inspired to conserve it.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation is a steadfast supporter of the things we cherish, and if I am asked to help spread the word about conservation, I’m all in."

Story #4: Celebrating 100 S’more Years of Texas State Parks

No telling how many s’mores have been devoured in Texas State Parks over the last 100 years! To celebrate the centennial of our state park system, parks across the state are inviting Texans to celebrate 100 S’more Years of Texas State Parks on May 13!

More than 80 parks will take part in the celebration, with a variety of twists on the age-old tradition. Our friends at H-E-B are donating free s’more supplies, which will be available while supplies last, and Solo Stove is providing its popular smokeless firepits for the celebration at a dozen parks.

Find out where you can join a 100 S’more Years celebration at a park near you.

If you can’t make it to a park, join the fun by hosting your own s’mores get-together. Post a photo of your s’mores celebration on Facebook or Instagram and tag @texasstateparks with the hashtag #100SmoreYears.
